Recall Application

Rejected

In a decision that has Fight HST organizer Bill Vander Zalm spitting nails, the application to begin the Ida Chong recall process has been rejected.

Acting chief electoral officer Craig James, says the application exceeds the 200 word limit allowed under legislation.

It seems that words like HST and MLA are not actually counted as two words, but rather six if you are applying the means of word counting used by Mr. James.

The group can resubmit an application however each of the 150 people registered to collect signatures during the recall campaign will have to resubmit their applications.

Comment: Rules are rules, and the organizers should be clear on the word count issue. However, I think Mr. Craig has done nothing but throw gasoline onto the fire. If he hasn't noticed there are a lot of p#$$@d off people these days, and most levels of government are in their sights.

ELECTIONS BC DELIVERS HST INITIATIVE VOTE QUESTION

VICTORIA – Attorney General Michael de Jong, QC, today received a draft version of the HST initiative vote question British Columbians will vote on in September 2011.

Elections BC Acting Chief Electoral Officer Craig James prepared and delivered the proposed question and, as he committed, the attorney general has now immediately released the information to the public.

The proposed question as drafted by the acting chief electoral officer is:

Are you in favour of extinguishing the HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) and reinstating the PST (Provincial Sales Tax) in conjunction with the GST (Goods and Services Tax)? Yes/No

Two comments of note in the above mentioned stories are that the HST is one of the bigger price 'events' for quite a few years, and economists will be looking to see if the cost savings that will accrue to firms from tax credits will gradually be transmitted to consumers

Comment: Regardless of what the current governments will try and convince us about this new tax, it is simply taking a tax burden off of the backs of business and putting it squarely onto the consumer. If Gordon and Colin think they can convince us it will have no effect on the average consumer, they are simply showing their utter contempt for the intelligence of the average voter in this province. If we roll over and play dead on this, they will have proven their point. Many business people who stand to gain huge amounts of money in this tax shift are quite confident the average consumer will complain for a month or two, and then just go back to sleep as usual.

The HST is here to stay as money starved governments flail about in a mad panic trying to figure out how to keep spending our grand kids money! As much as all the spin doctors try to convince us it really is good for the economy it simply boils down to a massive tax shift from business to the back of the individual consumer.

If the guys in power were to ever be honest for two minutes they would admit they really don't have a clue what they are doing but they must keep this juggernaut of government spending rolling along as they don't know what to do if they ever stopped.

This simple example of how we are now being taxed on tax does not bod well for our future if we can't get this thing turned around. The spinners may tell you that a fee is not a tax, but that is just so much mumbo jumbo, those fees go into the same pot as those taxes and they are spent by the same people.

Because of the 'rounding up' feature the 1 cent HST on the 5 cent recycle fee is actually a 20% tax!
